Career Advice Australia

Career Advice Australia is an Australian Government initiative committed to providing quality career education and helping all young Australians make a smooth transition through school and on to further study, training or work.

The economy is growing and businesses are expanding and that’s led to a growing demand for skilled workers. Career Advice Australia’s comprehensive programmes and services aim to help all young people aged 13 to 19 years, get the skills, training and advice they need to make the most of their future.

The main elements of the Career Advice Australia initiative include:

  • Local Community Partnerships which assist schools and local businesses, community organisations and industry bodies to deliver career development and transition support services to help all young people gain skills, experience, professional guidance and access to industry-based career information

  • Regional Industry Career Advisers which ensure that young people, parents, schools and local business receive relevant localised industry career information, advice and resources

  • National Industry Career Specialists representing the 10 industry sectors, which support the Regional Industry Career Advisers by providing industry sector-specific information

  • Youth Pathways which offer personalised assistance to help young people who are at risk of not making it through school or on to further education, training or employment

Local Community Partnerships

Local Community Partnerships are not-for-profit, community-based organisations that work closely with schools, local businesses and community organisations to help 13 to 19-year-olds gain skills, experience and guidance as they move through and beyond school.

To achieve this goal, Local Community Partnerships establish relationships with important groups within the local community. They form partnerships with local industry groups and employers, schools, professional career advisers, community organisations, parents, young people, youth service providers and other government agencies and encourage these groups to work together to deliver the following programmes:

  • Structured Workplace Learning
  • Career and Transition Support
  • Adopt a School Programme

Under the Career Advice Australia initiative, 213 Local Community Partnership regions have been set up across Australia to ensure that all young people are getting the support they need.
